Kauai Surfrider Blue Water Task Force

Continuing the story with Leah Sausen, here she tests water at Kalihiwai Beach in Kauai. Sausen is a volunteer for the Surfrider Blue Water Task Force, a water quality testing program. These photos were taken for a story about her that will appear in Free Surf Magazine.

The samples from around Kauai are tested for a variety of bacteria and the data is passed on to the County of Kauai and the Hawaii Department of Health.

Javier Manzano wins 2013 Pulitzer in Feature Photography

Congratulations to Javier Manzano for winning the 2013 Pulitzer Prize in Feature Photography!

Manzano studied in the Visual Journalism Program at Brooks Institute a couple of years ago and it is great to watch where he is going with his camera.

You never know how far a student will go down the path.

The dust from more than one hundred days of shelling, bombing and firefights hung in the air. Karmel Jabl is strategically important because of its proximity to the main road that separates several of the main battlegrounds in the city. Spontaneous Combustion and other happy accidents

On an assignment yesterday using a GoPro and this happens, spontaneous combustion.
Or the illusion of it.
A drop of water on the lens backlit turns into a board on fire.

Sometimes the hard thing is to accept the mistakes and then remember them when you want to reproduce it.

Make the mistakes and cultivate the ones that sit well with you.

Helen Grymaloski from Ontario, Canada, currently has an exhibit of her photos on display at the Dryden Regional Arts Council March 18 to April 6, 2013.
